After leaving KEGS in 1966 I became an Articled Clerk to a firm of Solicitors in Sudbury. In those days the “apprenticeship” was for five years, but I was paid – £3 a week, rising to £12 in 1971! Part of the training process was some London experience with a litigation firm and studying at the College of Law. On qualifying as a Solicitor I returned to Suffolk and married Jennie. In the following years we had two daughters and enjoyed extensive travels both in Europe and Worldwide which continues to this day – as you can guess my salary did eventually increase! I remained at Steed and Steed in Sudbury for the next 37 years during which time I reached the heady heights of Senior Partner and an additional qualification of Notary Public. I retired at 60 in 2008 and have been busier than ever. I am an active member of U3A (University of the Third Age), play lots of golf, at home and abroad, am involved in several voluntary organisations and travel to London and Lyon with Jennie to visit our daughters and four grandchildren.
