Brian Astle Bates – at KEGS 1943-48, died 24th December 2021 aged 91
Brian went on to Chadacre Agricultural Institute and gained a Distinction Certificate. He was a Founder member of Bury Rugby Football Club and played for Suffolk and Eastern Counties Wanderers. Brian joined R. Silcock & Son, Animal Feed Manufacturers, becoming Regional Sales Manager.
Later he went into farming in Northampton for seven years, then worked for R.H.M. Animal Feeds, Stroud, Gloucestershire, becoming Sales Manager, then General Manager (Wales) at Carmarthen. When the firm was taken over he joined Oldacre Animal Feeds as General Manager. He then built his own mill making animal feeds, becoming sales Director but sold out to Countrywide Farmers in January 2003.
His hobbies were fly fishing and breeding waterfowl.
