“Rob was born in North London and moved to Bury in 1960, where his father was employed by Sun Alliance as an insurer of (and expert on) racehorses. Rob initially boarded, then the family resided in Victoria Street in Bury St Edmunds. He gained first eleven football colours (a sweet left foot), played second eleven hockey and was West Suffolk 440 yards schoolboy champion in his penultimate year. From KEGS, Rob went up to Keele University (4 years in those days) and gained a 2:1 dual honours degree in American Studies and Geography. Subsequently he become a Fellow of The Chartered Insurance Institute. Initially, he worked in the City of London for Price Forbes then he emigrated to Bermuda in 1974 to work for AIRCO Insurance, part of the American International Group, as a Reinsurance Broker. After 4 years he set up a reinsurance brokerage firm, Intere (Bermuda) Limited, which he managed for 18 years until they were bought out. After various corporate mergers and a very distinguished and respected career in the reinsurance market in Bermuda, he ended his career with Aon Benfield (Bermuda) Limited.
Rob leaves behind his wife Jennifer, sons Trevor and Kris and grandchildren Sammy, Tamara, John Bailey and Anderson. My long friendship with Rob was fostered by our love of steam trains and our lifelong support of Ipswich Town Football Club.
Rob, we miss you.”
