Terry Rice - at KEGS 1956-1963 - Passed away on 22nd January 2026, aged 80 years.
At KEGS he was a bright pupil always either top or near the top in every subject. He also represented the school in football and cricket. His bowling action was unique, he was a right arm spinner and the delivery was from over his left shoulder. If the batsman had not faced him before a wicket was almost inevitable and reaction from watching opponents was incredulous.
In 1963 he went to Reading University to study Maths and Physics. Upon leaving he joined EMI. In 1969 he joined Essex County Council as a computer programmer retiring in 2009 having worked his way up to Senior Systems Analyst. At Chelmsford he met Linda, the love of his life, and they married in 1973 setting up home in Colne Engaine from which they have never moved.
They had two children, Gemma and Darren, eventually having four grandchildren Kaylia, Georgia, Lily, and Finley and now one great grandchild, Nella.
Terry was first and foremost a family man but his other love was Ipswich Town FC where he and Linda had season tickets in the upper North Stand for many years. They both went to the 1978 Cup Final to see Ipswich beat Arsenal while Linda was seven months pregnant with Gemma.
